Upgrading the OS of your android Smartphone or tablet to the latest version makes it possible for you to have the latest features on your device. Android operating system consists of many versions that have numerous interesting features. Depending on the brand of your Smartphone or tablet, the latest upgrade versions of operating system are usually available over-the-air thus you do not have to use cables and a desktop PC to upgrade the OS of your android phone. The procedures of upgrading the operating system of an android device may vary between different devices depend on the brand of the device and the android operating system you want to upgrade your device to.
Steps of Upgrading the Operating System of an Android Smartphone or Tablet
Prior to getting started with upgrading the operating system of your android Smartphone or tablet, you need to check which version of Android your device is running on. Checking the android version your device is running on makes it easy for you to know which version of the android operating system you need to upgrade to. You might even find that your device has been automatically updated to the latest android version without having to do it manually. The most recent android operating system is 4.4 KitKat which is also available in version 4.3, 4.2 and 4.1 all coming under the name Jelly Bean. With this in mind, you can now get started with upgrading your android phone or tablet to the latest android operating system version.
The first step is to back up all the data contained in your device. This is a precautionary measure that should not be ignored. Upgrading the operating system should not tamper with the data stored in your device; however, it is always good to be on the safer side.
After you have backed up the contacts, photos and other information in your android device, navigate to the Setting menu of your device. In most Android devices, you can navigate to the Setting menu through the app menu or through the notification bar. The Setting app has a gear or spanner logo.
Scroll down the Settings menu and identify About Phone or About Tablet if you are using a tablet.
Click to open the menu About Phone. The menu has different other menus that may vary from device to device. Scroll through the menu and identify ‘Software Update’ or similar a button that has similar information.
The ‘Software Update’ menu contains information of the version of Android your device is running. Your device will begin to search for an available update and it might take you to another menu where you are required to select the ‘Software update check’.
A list of the available update versions that you can upgrade to will appear and you will be asked whether you wish to install it. Click on yes so as to download and install the new software. When the new android version is downloaded and installed, your phone will reboot and when it starts, it will contain the new version of android operating system that you have upgraded.
