How to Speed up a Laptop

Having a slow laptop not only wastes much of your time but can also be so frustrating. There are several reasons that can cause your laptop to become slow. To be able to solve the problem and speed up a laptop, you need to understand the reasons that cause a laptop to become slow.

Reasons for a Slower Laptop and their Solutions

There are several reasons as to why a laptop becomes slow. To determine the right solution to speeding your laptop, you need to know the problem with your laptop. The first question you need to ask yourself is how old your laptop is. An old laptop may have many problems that may cause the laptop to become slow. Other than being old, there are other reasons as to why a laptop can become slow. Here are a few reasons.

Poor Cooling System

Heat is one of the reasons for a slow computer. Poor cooling system can be as a result of faulty cooling funs and heat sinks inside the laptop. It can also be due to dust accumulation on the funs and cooling vents on the laptop. When the cooling system of a laptop can not work effectively, the processor becomes slow thus making the laptop to become slow. To solve this problem, clean the laptop vents and ensure that the cooling system of the laptop is working accordingly.

Low RAM

A lower Random Access Memory (RAM) can cause your laptop to become slow. The lower RAM can be as a result of having so many programs and information that you do not need in your laptop. The unnecessary programs installed in your laptop take up a big percentage of the RAM space available in your laptop. Some of the programs may be startup programs that automatically start every time you power your computer on. This lowers the performance of your laptop. So as to increase the RAM of your laptop, you need to delete the unnecessary programs and information present in your laptop so as to speed up the laptop. You can also solve a lower RAM by upgrading the RAM of your laptop to a RAM with higher capacity. This is technical and can be challenging to someone without any knowledge about hardware since you need open the laptop and replace the RAM. Another challenge associate with replacing the RAM is that some Laptops may have a build-in RAM which is impossible to replace.

Problem of the Hard Disk

A problem with the hard disk is another problem that may cause your laptop to become slow. The hard disk plays a great part of storing the programs that are used in the running of the laptop. A faulty hard disk can cause the laptop to become slow. Other than the physical problem with the hard disk, if the arrangement of information in the hard disk is irregular, there is so much wasted space and the hard disk space can get full thus causing the laptop to become slow. To solve any problems with the hard disk, you can run disk defragmentation so as to ensure that the files and information stored in the hard disk is stores well thus increasing the speed of a laptop. Another way to solve the problem with the hard disk of your laptop is running disk cleanup. This will help solve any problem that the hard disk may be having.
