Having a virus in your laptop can cause your computer to become slow and can also lead to lose of important information contained in your computer. Losing important information or having some of your files corrupted and your laptop becoming slow are not the only signs that your laptop has some virus. There are several ways in which you can get rid of virus in your laptop. Here are several ways in which you can get rid of a virus in your laptop.
Run a Virus-Scanner then Use an Antivirus to Remove the Virus
This is the first method and step that you should take in the event that you suspect that your laptop has a virus. Running a virus-scanner will help you know the kind of virus in your computer while the antivirus will help you remove the virus. There is much virus-scanning software available in the market today; some of these software are free while others will require you to pay a fee. It is important to note that some of the modern viruses can dodge the antivirus program thus you should ensure you keep updating your antivirus so as to ensure that the antivirus program can detect and get rid of the newly released viruses.
Start your Laptop using “Safe Mode”
Re-start your laptop and when the computer is starting, press F8 repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears. On the Advanced Boot Options menu, select Safe Mode and press Enter. You can also reboot your laptop in “Safe Mode with Networking”. Restart your computer and press F8 repeatedly before Windows loads. Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the resulting menu. Rebooting your computer with Safe Mode with Networking helps disable much of the start-up routine and only allows the use of basic web browsing, allowing you to access, download and update Malwarebytes. After you have downloaded and updated the Malwarebytes select full scan option instead of quick scan to help scan for any malicious programs that may be in your computer.
Removing the Virus Manually
Sometimes, you need to remove the virus manually if you are unable to remove the virus using the antivirus software. To remove the virus, you need to access the computer registry files and delete the virus. You need to be careful not to delete registry files instead of deleting the virus. To access the registry you need to use the command prompt. To get started, press the “Windows” key and press “R.” The Run box will open. Type cmd into the Run box and click on “OK.” The Command prompt will open. Identify the registry values that are associated with the computer virus and delete them. Alternatively, you can Type regedit into the Run box and click on “OK.” The Registry Editor will open, identify the virus files and delete them by right clicking in them and selecting delete.
